Barbers Point lighthouse was established in 1888 and originally used to help ships arrive safely. They decided to build this lighthouse because there were two shipwrecks that had happened because it struck coral. The first lighthouse that was commissioned was 42-feet tall. Barbers Point was named after Captain Henry Barber. In 1968, the name of was changed from Barber's Point with an apostrophe to Barbers Point without an apostrophe.
The current lighthouse that you see at Germaine's Luau was built in 1933. This tower stands seventy-one feet tall. Barbers Point Lighthouse is connected to the Germaine's Luau because of the Stephenson family. The Stephenson family who originally owned the grounds of Germaine's Luau, the Patriarch of the Stephenson family was the caretaker of the lighthouse. This required him to live on the same property as the lighthouse. As time went on, many generations had lived on this property.
Fun fact: The main building which contains the gift shop and main soda bar was the main house the family lived in.
